We then cleared the broom closet so Mama could clean & Danijela could ride the vacuum. Sorry, no pictures of the vacuum bull.
We weren't able to give the "Stroller Strides" exercise class a whirl this morning because of Danijela's all important morning nap-ish thing. However, we did manage to squeeze in a few lunges while also unloading the dishwasher. Look at that tush.
Danijela got the treat of her short life on Sunday. Well, she didn't nap in the church nursery which isn't much of a surprise. But it usually puts a little damper on things because she gets cranky. Sunday we voluntarily ditched the morning nap. Instead Grammy, Tata, Mama & Danijela strolled to Starbucks where she tasted her first scone (no latte!). She got noticeably hyper after this indulgence. She was all about saying "Hi!" to everyone & flirting with a fellow that had a yummy muffin. She so would have eaten all his crumbs.
I don't pay much attention to all the child development milestones in that I'm not concerned Danijela isn't walking (or whatever). She pulls herself up to standing by holding onto something. Then she'll race around the table. She has never attempted to stand by herself & actually prefers to crawl. Sunday all that changed. She was playing with the bathroom door & wanted us to see she could stand by herself & balance. It was pretty cute I must say.
Yippee for sunshine! I can take some photographs without a flash. Sunday started & ended beautifully. I'd left the Nikon in the glove compartment overnight so it got super cold. I brought it in the house as we were all getting ready for church. The lens kept fogging up which created a cool effect.
I received a bunch of hand-me-downs from my sister. I boxed everything up in order of size & stored them in the garage. I have to work at remembering they are there before it is too late. Anyway, after Grammy & I got home Saturday I pulled the next box out. Like magic Danijela has some new clothes! This is her zebra outfit. You'll see it better in the next post.
It's raining! This is a phrase I learned all too well on our trip to Serbia in June '04. Our first stop was Belgrade to visit Beba & her family. If I remember correctly it rained 7 days straight. It actually didn't dampen the mood at all. Well, it rained a lot here on Saturday too. No walk to the park for Tata & Danijela. It is a Saturday ritual for them.
Okay so it's not night vision photography, but it sure looks like it. Friday I got the new charger for the Nikon from Robert. The catch was this. Dan & I had a date on Friday while Grammy took care of baby girl. When we returned Grammy was just laying her in bed. Darn! Well, after she fell asleep I kept running into her room snapping away. It was completely dark in there. We even have blackout shades (long story). I'm surprised I managed to get her in the frame at all.
Here's another picture I snagged from my parent's camera. Danijela is 2 months. I don't know why, but this picture doesn't capture how truly tiny this sink actually is. Of course, Danijela was tiny too. Her hair stuck straight up for the longest time. It's pretty tame here. Now she has a big girl tub.
In December I downloaded images from my family's cameras. Not exactly sure when this was taken. I think in August 2005. Danijela would have been 7 months. Andi & Sam have a rockin' playroom. They dressed her up while they were babysitting. I thought this was hilarious, plus she is so stinkin' cute. She kinda reminds me of an opera singer for some reason. Seems appropriate today given her performance during naptime!
Meet Ernie the elephant. This is a really funny story. You have to imagine that Ernie is about half the size of a thumb. For months Danny would give Danijela a bath & talk to her about all her tub toys. He made up all these names as she would wail. I'd be speeding around the house getting her bedtime clothes ready, clearing dishes, or whatever. One night I heard him say "Oh, here is Ernie the elephant. Oh ... no ... that's not Ernie." I started laughing immediately because I figured she pooped in the tub. And she did.
Sorry I haven't been posting like usual. The camera I do have has dead batteries & the battery charger is kaput. I don't know what it is, but I don't like to post without images. And I actually feel a little lost without a camera. Probably because I'm a very visual person. This is a recent image of Danijela testing the limits. Baba & Mama were saying "No" as she reached for the crystal bowl. And each time she would smile & reach with more gusto. This is a common scenario in our house.
I didn't even remotely intend to be in this picture. I think it is the first posted image of all three of us -- which is pretty sad. I like the idea that the camera is part of our family. Danijela giggles when she sees herself in the mirror. That is what I was trying to capture. Plus she looks cute in her hooded towel (thank you, Sundee). Oh well. Maybe I'll get it next time. This weekend I noticed what I thought might be tartar on Danijela's bottom teeth! Tonight we implemented the apple & banana flavored toothpaste. I understand now that we should have done that when her first tooth came in. Better late than never!
Danijela was banging away at the keyboard today. Yes, I let her. And, no, I'm not sure if I should have. It was pretty entertaining. She actually managed to completely change the Outlook display. We started this on Saturday when we were having our girls weekend. I took some pictures with the "old" camera. I swear I feel totally inept without Robert's Canon Rebel. Anyway, Sundee was here with her fancy camera & captured this image (above). I've included a couple from Saturday too (below).
Yes, I am totally reminiscing about our baby tonight. Sundee took these images the day we brought Danijela home. She had been in NICU for a week. It is amazing to me how much she looks like ... well, her. Even way back then. The only difference is she slept some then!
Notice her little legs. This totally cracks me up. Baba bought Danijela this walker months ago. Danijela cannot stand to be contained in anything. She didn't take to the walker until this week. It kept veering left so we (safely) put her in the street to walk to her hearts desire. It was amazing. She was so funny & so free. Paige helped her along when she got stuck in a "ditch" of sorts.
Apples of Gold is a ministry at Watermark for newly married women. In addition to Biblical teaching it includes preparing simple (yet elegant) meals. I don't meet the criteria, but absolutely will beg to participate based on Danijela's reaction. My husband is much more subtle (Love you, honey).
I love her front teeth peering out. I really do treasure this time as much as I am being refined by it. Today was pretty special because she slept on my chest this afternoon. She has not done that since her first few weeks at home.
This is classic Savanna. Capturing an image of Savanna during playgroup is like hitting a moving target. She is as cute as she is fast. And she is incredibly fast ...

I haven't been feelin' it with the camera these last few days. As a result I haven't been capturing as many good images as I would like. It's not that I haven't had good subjects that's for sure. Here are some of the better ones from yesterday's playgroup -- all the boys -- Owen, Hunter, Carson & Wesley. Drew is the only fella missing because they came later & my brain was missing by then. The big news is Owen got what we think was his first kiss from Savanna.
I love my husband. Thank you, Danny, for loving me in spite of all my flaws. Loving me when I wasn't very lovable. Thank you for your kindness & your sweet spirit. For your compromise & patience. Ja te volim.
How far we have come. Valentine's Day 2005 Danijela was in NICU. Her Tata bought her a frog prince stuff animal -- including crown & royal cape -- that says "Kiss Me Cutie". She also received a huge balloon. We have all this on video. She did & still does have him wrapped around her little finger. At the same time he gave my Mom a coffee cup filled with Hershey Kisses. He gave me a chocolate rose. We were so an after thought in that moment & it was very endearing. He is a wonderful daddy.

I was just telling Melanie that when you think about it Danijela has no idea her "cell phone" isn't real. Not yet anyway. On the way home she was having a serious conversation with someone & it was very funny. And, yes, I jumped out of the car @ a red light to get the camera from the trunk. As you can see our big girl is now facing forward!
